I am a Brazilian-American therapist helping adult clients address issues associated with trauma, substance abuse, panic, depression, and anxiety. Together we work on challenging unhelpful thinking using effective coping strategies to manage life’s difficulties.

My clients find that despite being active in their careers, accomplishing big goals, and being a partner to their significant others, life can be a struggle. When clients first come in, they may feel a sense of loss, may frequently relive past trauma, use or overuse substances to cope, or experience overwhelming fear that impedes their abilities to participate in things they used to enjoy.

They may notice more self-isolation, be unable to get through a day without revisiting painful memories, experience intense panic or fear, or struggle with getting out of bed. They also sometimes share that they don’t have the same drive or passion for their hobbies, social engagements, or relationships. Because of this, they often feel a general sense of uncertainty, shame, and guilt about who they are or where they want to go. These feelings often lead to overuse of drugs and alcohol.

Some other common struggles I see include

  • spending hours worrying about a seemingly never-ending list of what-if scenarios

  • avoiding people or activities that were once a big part of their lives

  • beating themselves down frequently

Their inner critic tells them that they aren’t the professional, friend, or significant other they want to be right now.

Before working together, my clients worried that therapy wouldn’t be able to help them heal from their lived experiences with traumatic events. They also didn’t believe they’d ever be able to stop using substances to cope with life’s hardships, and they were pretty certain that they were all alone in their experiences.

Like my clients, you deserve to heal from trauma, anxiety, and depression and to live your best life. Coming to a place of self-love and acceptance without leaning on excessive worry, substances, or feelings of shame is not out of your reach. If you want to work towards reconnecting with others, reduce worry, and not use or overuse substances to manage depression, anxiety, and trauma, I’d love to help you get there.
